Worthington High School senior Fanuel Wolday qualified Thursday for the state boys cross country meet by placing sixth in the Section 2AA Championships in Mankato.
Wolday will return to the state meet following a 10th-place finish in 2023 and a 16th-place finish in 2022. The Trojan senior's time Thursday was 16.19.9. The first-place finisher, Audi Thom of Mankato East, crossed the line in 15:44.9.
WHS finished eighth as a team in the 11-team competition. Among the other runners for the Trojans were Austin Kinser, 23rd; Andrew Olague, 40th; Jose Chavez Vega, 65th; and Addis Tiruneh, 66th.
In girls sectional competition Thursday, the Trojans placed 11th as a team and were led by Emily Dahlquist's 48th-place finish. Kenadie Thiner was 62nd, Claire Schultz 63rd and Madison Sieve 65th.

The Minnesota West men's soccer team had its season come to a close Thursday night, as second-seeded Alexandria Community & Technical College edged the visiting No. 3 Bluejays 2-1. Minnesota West, which entered the match on a three-game winning streak, finishes at 5-8-1.
