Sandoval suffered a life-threatening injury and was transported to Sanford SIoux Falls. A passenger in the Saab, Hugo Vicente Sandoval, 18, of St. James, was taken to North Memorial Hospital; he also had a non-life-threatening injury. Both were wearing seat belts.

Munns, meanwhile, was uninjured. Assisting at the scene were the Brewster Fire Department, Heron Lake EMS, the Worthington Fire Department and EMS, Nobles County Sheriff's Office, and Sanford and North Memorial AirCare.
