The Worthington Trojans boys hockey team put the puck in the net 12 times Friday night as they defeated Bloomington Kennedy 12-6 in the second day of a tournament in Windom.
After Bloomington Kennedy took a 1-0 edge just one minute and 30 seconds into the game, Worthington scored six goals before the first period was over. Two of them came from Trenton Chantharath, and two more were off the stick of Anthony Jimenez. Also picking up goals in the initial period were Ayden Stugelmeyer and Spenser Nickel. The first two Trojan scores came within 10 seconds of each other.
In period number two, Stugelmeyer made it a 7-1 game slightly more than halfway through. Bloomington Kennedy answered to make it 7-2, but goals from Mason Ommen and Jimenez put the lead at 9-2. After a single Bloomington Kennedy goal, Chantharath equaled Jimenez's hat trick by netting his third goal of the game.
Worthington picked up additional goals in the third period from Ommen and Nickel in finishing off the victory. The Trojans finished the afternoon with 47 shots on goal compared to 29 for Brooklyn Kennedy. Brody Pederson was in net for WHS.
On Saturday, Ommen picked up the Trojans' lone goal as they fell to tournament host Windom 4-1. Nick Espenson had a hat trick for the Eagles and Jonah Lohse had the other goal. Windom outshot Worthington 28-17 as the Trojans' record dropped to 3-8 on the season.
