Update: Some roads opening, but still no travel advised

UPDATE FROM PREVIOUS NEWS RELEASE: All state highways in South Central Minnesota open at 1:30 pm today


The Minnesota Department of Transportation is expected to reopen a few state highways in South Central Minnesota at 11:30 am today. These highways will remain under a no travel advisory after they reopen to traffic.


If motorists need to travel, MnDOT urges drivers to use caution while driving as roads are completely or partially covered with compacted snow and ice. Strong winds with blowing and drifting snow are expected to continue through today. Motorists are advised to reduce speeds and drive according to conditions.


Highways open:

  • Westbound I-90 from Worthington to Luverne

  • Minnesota 60 from Worthington to Iowa

  • Minnesota 91 from Iowa to the Murray County line

  • U.S. 59 from Iowa to Fulda


Highways closed:

  • Interstate 90 Worthington to Blue Earth

  • Minnesota 60 from Worthington to Mankato

  • Minnesota 264

  • Minnesota 30 from the Murray County line to Minnesota 4

  • Minnesota 4 from Iowa to Minnesota 30

  • Minnesota 15 from Iowa to Madelia


A no-travel advisory remains for most state highways and I-90 in the following counties: Nobles, Jackson, Cottonwood, Martin, Freeborn, Faribault, Blue Earth, Brown, Waseca, Nicollet, Le Sueur, Rock, and Sibley. Drivers are encouraged to check www.511mn.org for current road condition information before they travel.
