WHS boys golfers defeated in Friday meet in Marshall

Marshall High School defeated visiting Worthington High School in a boys golf match Friday afternoon, 148-177.
Marshall sophomore Deacon Wing shot the day's low score with a nine-hole round of 35. The Tigers had the three lowest scorers, with the Trojans' Spenser Nickel coming fourth among individuals with a 39. Also competing for Worthington were Tyson Petersen at 45, Garret Larson at 46, Ayden Stugelmeyer at 47 and Ryan Dorcey and Cameron Krommendyk each at 48.
The Trojans' girls golf team had been scheduled to be at Pipestone on Friday, but the matchup was cancelled because the Arrows didn't have enough players.

The Trojans' boys tennis team was also on the road Friday afternoon, and St. Peter emerged with a 7-0 victory.
All of the matches were decided in straight sets. The closet match in singles came at No. 4, at which Worthington's Bennett Oberloh lost the first set 6-2 before falling in a tight 7-6 second set. In doubles, the closest match came at No. 2, at which Cristian Miranda and Coltin Olmanson were beaten 6-3 6-4.

Minnesota West's softball team wrapped up its regular season Friday afternoon by earning a split with St. Cloud Tech. The Lady Jays were edged 5-3 in game one and picked up a 14-10 victory in the second matchup.
In the opener, the Lady Jays scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to grab a 3-1 lead, but the Cyclones got one in the fifth and three in the sixth. Faith Kazemba, Gracie Nath and Raya Van Beek all had base hits and RBIs, Hannah Kazemba tripled and Cassie Boyum doubled. Kya Anderson pitched the whole game for Minnesota Hits, allowing six hits, walking seven and striking out nine.
The Lady Jays' triumph over St. Cloud Tech in game two was the first win over the Cyclones for Minnesota West head coach Keith Swenson in three years at the helm. Faith Kazemba had a big day at the plate with a double, three singles and five RBIs; she also scored a pair of runs. Hannah Kazemba had a triple, single, two runs scored and two RBIs. Alderson and Nath each had a single and double; Alderson scored twice and Nath drove in two. Boyum contributed two singles and scored two runs, and Maddie Petersen added a hit and two RBIs.
Nath tossed the first three innings for the Lady Jays. Hannah Kazemba threw 3 1/3 innings, and Alderson got a pair of outs as well. Minnesota West outhit St. Cloud Tech 15-13.
The Lady Jays ended their regular season with a 9-6 record. Next up is the North Regional Tournament, scheduled for May 8-9 at Central Lakes Community College in Brainerd.
