WHS boys hockey defeated in first game of Windom tourney

The Worthington Trojans boys hockey team competed in their first game at a two-day tournament in Windom on Thursday and were defeated 10-4 by Faribault.


The Trojans fell behind 1-0 early, but Ayden Stugelmeyer scored at the 10:56 mark of the first period on an assist from Anthony Jimenez to knot the score. WHS, however, would finish the opening period down 3-1.


Spenser Nickel got the Trojans off to a good start in period number two when he scored 2:48 in to make it 3-2. The Falcons, though, tallied the next three goals to take a 6-2 lead. Mason Ommen scored with 2:45 remaining in the second for Worthington.


Faribault went on to get the first three goals in the third period to blow the game open. Trenton Chantharath scored at the 9:55 mark for the Trojans' fourth goal.


The Falcons outshot Worthington 38-34 on the night. The Trojans are now 2-7 and will play their second game of the Windom tournament at 3 p.m. today against Bloomington Kennedy, which defeated Windom 6-3 on Thursday.

Another Trojan team that will be in action Friday is the boys' basketball squad, which will play at Fergus Falls at 6 p.m. WHS is 1-4 on the year, while the Otters are 5-1.
