WHS boys soccer team is 2-0; Lady Jays start hot in VB

Two players scored a pair of goals each and the Worthington Trojans boys soccer team began their season in dominating action Friday night with a 9-0 home win over Mound Westonka.

WHS got seven goals in the first half against the school it edged in a shootout in last year’s sectional semifinals. Welbaka Morke and Isaac Perez scored twice apiece Friday night, while the Trojans also received goals from Danny Banegas, Andy Guzman, Maqui Sandoval, Cristian Melendez and Carlos Castillo. WHS head coach Juan Flores said he thought his team played well and controlled the game while doing a really good job keeping possession of the ball.

On Saturday, the Trojans traveled to face St. Croix Prep on the road and defeated a school that went 16-2 last season by a score of 1-0. Morke scored the game’s loan goal. Emmanuel Saravia was in net for the shutout.

The Trojans next host St. Peter at 7 p.m. Tuesday in a match that will air live on 104.3 La Voz.
