Danny Banegas scored both Trojan goals Friday night as the boys soccer team won its regular-season finale over visiting Willmar 2-1.
After a scoreless first half, Wilman Enamorado scored for the Cardinals 12 minutes into the second half for a 1-0 Willmar lead. Banegas answered about a minute and half later, then got the go-ahead score with 19:28 left on the clock as Worthington improved to 10-3-3 on the season. Willmar dropped to 9-3-4.
The Trojans will be the third seed in the upcoming sectional tournament and host Mound Westonka Tuesday night.

In girls soccer Saturday night, visiting Albert Lea shut out Worthington 6-0. The Trojans will play on the road Tuesday at sectionals.

The Minnesota West women's volleyball team picked up a big win Saturday afternoon at the Center for Health and Wellness as the sixth-ranked Lady Jays downed second-ranked Century College 3-1. Games scores were 19-25. 25-19, 25-21, 25-22.
Freshman Sadie Krahling topped Minnesota West with 17 kills while also contributing eight kills and a block. Ella Hesse added 12 kills and 17 digs as the Lady Jays avenged a 3-1 loss at Century last weekend. Kadyn Paulson had a team-best 27 digs. Other highs were Madi Petersen and Kate Slettum with two ace serves apiece and Hesse and Ally Nelson with two blocks each. Lexi Schreurs passed for 49 set assists and added 22 digs.
Later in the day, Minnesota West was able to empty its bench and blank Sisseton Wahpeton College 3-0. Raya Van Beek wound up leading the team in kills with seven. Petersen had nine digs and two ace serves, and Kylee Larsen also had a pair of aces. Minnesota West is now 22-4 this season.

The Bluejay football team, meanwhile, continued its dominance as second-ranked Minnesota West moved to 6-0 on the year by routing Minnesota North College-Vermillion 66-7 at Trojan Field. Minnesota North College opted to forfeit the game at the end of the third quarter.
After turnovers on the teams' first three possessions of the game, it was the Ironhawks who got on the board first. The Bluejays would quickly take over shortly afterward, as Hunter Grathwohl scored on a four-yard run and added a two-point conversion with 9:10 to go in the first quarter. A 55-yard pick-six from Justin Spears, an eight-yard TD run from QB Elijah Alexander and an 18-yard TD scamper from Alexander made it 26-7 with 3:16 still left in the first.
Minnesota West scored three more times in the second quarter. Alexander hit Marlon Fluker from 14 yards out for one TD, Brandon Coleman went in the end zone from nine yards out and Alexander hooked up with Fluker again from 77 yards out for six points.
Ahead 46-7 at the half, the Bluejays scored three more times in the third quarter. Alexander passed to Lauren Ruth from 23 yards out, Ashton Sandbulte hit paydirt on a 22-yard run and Quanterrion Brooks scored on a 27-yard dash.
Minnesota West will now play at the Dordt junior varsity tonight.

The WHS football team traveled to Albert Lea on Friday night and was defeated by the Tigers 33-13.
Albert Lea grabbed a 14-0 first-quarter advantage, but Jacari Swinea ran for a two-yard TD for the Trojans to cut the lead in half. Swinea then reached paydirt from 34 yards out late in the third quarter to make it 14-13. The Tigers, though, outscored Worthington 19-0 in the final 12 minutes to put the game away.
Swinea finished the night with 214 yards rushing on 30 carries. WHS, which competed just one of 13 passes and also threw an interception, was led defensively by Chase Byrne and Dawson Svalland, who had nine tackles apiece. Svalland, Jack Schmitz and Thet Tay each recovered fumbles, and Isaiah Schroeder had an interception.
Worthington is now 1-5 and hosts Fairmont this Friday.

In girls volleyball, the Trojans went 0-3 over the weekend in a tournament at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall. Worthington lost 2-0 to Lac Qui Parle Valley and 2-1 to Central Minnesota Christian on Friday and was then defeated by Russell-Tyler-Ruhton 2-1 on Saturday. WHS is now 10-14 on the year.
