The Worthington High School Business Professionals of America recently competed at the Minnesota BPA State Spring Leadership Conference in the Twin Cities, with multiple students qualifying for nationals.
Peer Htoo finished in third place and advanced to BPA Nationals in Fundamental Desktop Publishing. Meanwhile, Martha Garcia-Fonseca, a Worthington Middle School eighth-grader in the BPA Middle Level Division, took first place and advanced to BPA Nationals in Business Communication Skills Concepts, and placed second in Word Processing, Business Math Concepts and Computer Literacy Concepts. Garcia-Fonseca will be competing in all events at the nationals.
Also excelling for the Trojans at the state conference were Kaw Tha Blay, who placed fourth and advanced to BPA Nationals in Advanced Desktop Publishing, and Alondra Leon Flores, who took second place and advanced to BPA Nationals in Administration Research Project, Individual. She was also a Statesman Torch Award winner.
Additionally, Alexia Puente was a national runner-up in Fundamental Desktop Publishing, and the Administration Team of Flores, Blay, Htoo, and Edgar Mendez Ochoa was also a national runner-up.
The WHS BPA Chapter also earned a number of awards for its service projects that helped its school and community. Nine Worthington High School BPA members and one Worthington Middle School BPA member attended the state event.
The Business Professionals of America National Leadership Conference will take place May 7 – 11 in Orlando, Florida.
