Fanuel Wolday led the Worthington Trojans boys cross country team Tuesday by placing fourth among big-school competitors in the Big South Conference meet.
Wolday finished with a time of 15:58.92, slightly less than 20 seconds behind the winner, Kelton Koepp of Belle Plaine. Samuel Deutz of Marshall was second; St. Peter's Alexander Bur was third.
Marshall captured first-place honors among the seven teams. Worthington took sixth place. Austin Kinser was the second-fastest finisher for the Trojans, taking 15th, while Andrew Olague was 39th and Jose Chavez Vega 43rd.
Among small schools, Luverne had five runners place in the top 10 as the Cardinals won the team competition with 31 points. Owen Janisezki was third, Dylan Ommen fifth, Marcus Papik sixth, Sage Viessman seventh and Leif Ingebretsen 10th for Luverne. Windom Area's Bryce Green was another top-10 finisher, taking eighth.
In the girls race, St. Peter was first with 44 points; Worthington was seventh. Leading the Trojans was Madison Sieve, who placed 28th. Emily Dahlquist was 33rd, Kenadie Thiner 38th and Claire Schultz 44th.
Among small schools, Redwood Valley earned a strong win with a score of 23 points. Area girls placing in the top 10 were: Luverne's Summer Mollberg, Ella Schmuck and Khloe Visker, who were fourth, seventh and 10th, respectively; and Jackson County Central's Naiya Ayers and Cora Pauling, who were fifth and eighth.

The Worthington Trojans volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory at Mankato East on Tuesday night by scores of 10-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-20.
Jayden Spartz topped WHS in kills with 22 and digs with 13. Grace Barber had a team-best four ace serves and Natya Khamphanh had 33 set assists, three ace serves, 11 digs and two blocks. The Trojans are now idle until sectionals, which begin on Oct. 23.
