The Worthington Trojans girls hockey didn't win a game last season. Now, they've picked up two victories in less than a week.
The Trojans, who won on the road against Prairie Centre last Friday night, picked up a triumph this time at home, as WHS edged Windom Area 1-0. With the win, Worthington improved to 2-6 on the year.
It was a quiet first period for both teams, as Windom managed four shots on goal and Worthington a mere two during a scoreless first 17 minutes. The Eagles outshot the Trojans 8-6 in the second period, which also ended in a scoreless tie.
In the third period, freshman Taylor Nickel scored what would be the game's lone goal with 2:15 gone by, with an assist credited to freshman Leah Nelson. WHS goalie Macie Mahlberg, also a ninth-grader, finished the game with 17 saves. Windom limited the Trojans to 12 shots on goal but dropped to 1-9 on the season.
