A pep fest and sendoff for the state-bound WHS gymnastics team will take place at 10:50 a.m. Thursday in the high school gymnasium. In addition to the Trojans' team, five student athletes have qualified for individual competition — Lucy Thier in all-around, Jada Milbrath in bars and beam, Kenadie Thiner in beam, Marley Phomsatry in vault and Isabella Lazzu in vault.

The team competition will take place Friday and individual competition is set for Saturday in St. Paul. People who want to ride on a fan bus (motor coach) should sign up in the high school office by 3 p.m. Thursday. Cost is $10 per person; all students in grades K-8 must have an adult with them for supervision.

Minnesota West wrestlers will be in action at home one more time this season as they'll compete for a chance to qualify for next month's NJCAA National Championships.

The Bluejays hosted their final meet of the regular season this past Wednesday night when they took on St. John's University. Minnesota West got off on the right foot when Aidyn Wolfe, a freshman from Riverview, Florida, earned a tightly contested 13-8 victory at 184 pounds. The Bluejays proceeded to incur hard-fought losses at 197, 285 and 125, then forfeited at 133 pounds.

After a double forfeit at 141, Joey Wilczek, a freshman from Little Falls, picked up a tightly contested triumph of his own for Minnesota West at 149. St. John's then won at 157 and 165, but Bluejays freshman Sam Rock of Luverne put an exclamation point on a great regular season with a 9-2 win at 174 pounds. The final score of the dual match was 34-9.

"Though the score may be a little deceiving, we saw some massive improvements from each guy tonight," Minnesota West head coach Brayden Curry said. "Really good momentum to have heading into the Regional tournament.”

Sunday's wrestling at the Center for Health and Wellness begins at 10 a.m.
