Windom crash results in life-threatening injuries

A Heron Lake woman sustained a life-threatening injury as a result of a Wednesday morning crash in Windom.


According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2024 Peterbilt semi operated by Russell Herman Schiell, 73, of Ellendale was northbound on U.S. 71 and a 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan operated by Shirley Ann Wagner, 79, of Heron Lake was westbound on First Avenue South. The vehicles collided in the intersection. The crash was reported at 9:10 a.m. Wednesday.


Wagner was transported to Windom Area Health with a life-threatening injury while Schiell was unhurt. The Cottonwood County Sheriff's Office, Windom and Heron Lake police departments, and Windom Fire and Ambulance assisted at the scene.
