Windom man dies, another injured in Thursday crash

One person died and another person had life-threatening injuries as a result of a Thursday evening crash in Windom.


According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2016 Ford Edge operated by Terry Lee Fredin, 76, of Windom, was southbound on Cindy Street, and a 2007 Peterbilt semi operated by Eric Alexander Murcia, 30, of Springfield was westbound on Minnesota 60. The vehicles collided in the intersection, resulting in a T-bone crash. The crash was reported at 6:35 p.m. Thursday.


Fredin died at the scene of the crash. His passenger, Karen Jean Fredin, 78, of Windom, was transported to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls with life-threatening injuries. Neither Murcia or a passenger in the semi, Baylee Machelle Barsalou, 27, of North Sioux City, S.D., were injured.


The Windom Police Department, Fire Department and Ambulance, along with the Cottonwood and Jackson county sheriff's offices, assisted at the scene.
