Wolday first again for Trojans' cross-country team

Worthington’s Fanuel Wolday was once again a winner Thursday as he took first place at the I-90 Invitational cross country meet in Fairmont.


Wolday crossed the finish line in a time of 16:30.4 seconds for the Trojans, who placed third as a team in the meet with 78 points. St. Peter won the boys meet with 47 points, with Madelia next at 55. Among other area teams competing in the eight-team meet were Heron Lake-Okabena, which was sixth, and Jackson County Central, which was eighth.


Other Trojans who ran in Thursday’s meet included Austin Kinser, who placed fifth; Isaac Kinser, who was 20th; Jose Chavez Vega, 25th; and Andrew Olague, 29th. Quinton Brunk was the highest placed runner for Heron Lake-Okabena at 33rd, while Isaac Rodriguez was 36th to lead Jackson County Central.


In the girls race, St. Peter also placed first with 45 points, followed by Jackson County Central with 66 points and Worthington with 81. 


JCC had Cora Pauling and Naiya Ayers come in fourth and fifth, respectively. The Trojans were paced by Madison Sieve’s 10th-place finish. Heron Lake-Okabena, which did not have a complete team, had Eryn Salentiny take 17th.


Among the other girls running for Worthington were Emily Dahlquist, who was 14th; Kenadie Thiner, 18th; and Grace Bates, 23rd. Also running for the Huskies were Zadi Farmer, 15th, and Abigail Mohr, 21st.
