Worthington's September is warmer, wetter than average

Worthington recorded a total of 4.09 inches of rain during the month of September, according to statistics supplied by the wastewater treatment plant. National Weather Service statistics indicate that the average rainfall for the month of September is 3.21 inches.

This past month's rain brings the total for 2021 thus far to 23.74 inches, which is a little less than the average January-through-September total of 25.99 inches. However. that precipitation gap was narrowed somewhat by a rainfall amount of 1.24 inches that was measured at 7 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1.


The average high temperature recorded locally, meanwhile, was 76.1 degrees this past month, compared the normal September high of 72.49. The month’s highest temperature in Worthington was 88 degrees, which was reported on the 17th.


The average low temperature during August was 50.6 degrees, which is 1.5 degrees warmer than the normal September low of 49.1. The coolest reading of the month in Worthington was recorded on Sept. 21 at 40 degrees.

The normal average temperature in Worthington from January through September is 58.6 degrees, and the average low is 38.0 degrees. This year, those corresponding numbers are 59.7 and 39.3, respectively.
