WPD officers warn of EZ Pass charge scam

Worthington residents, including several Worthington Police Department officers, recently received a text message claiming that they drove on a highway with an E-Z Pass lane and incurred a charge of $4.15.

The text message directs the person to go to a link to pay the fee. The WPD reports that this is a scam, and people should never click on a link that is sent to them unless they know the sender and they know the sender was going to send them the link. Clicking on links like this could inadvertently give the sender access to your phone or computer, and they can access your bank card information and make numerous charges to your account.

People who receive this message should simply delete it.
